Banyana Banyana of South Africa have booked a place in the quarter final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, holding in Morocco.
The South African women defeated Burkina Faso women on Tuesday night, thanks to a lone goal in the first half from Thembi Kgatlana.
It was the final Group B match and all the four teams stand a chance to qualify. However, only Ivory Coast who topped the group and South Africa made it out of the group.
In the run of play, Kgatlana broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, finishing calmly after being played through by Fikile Magama to give Banyana Banyana a 1-0 lead before halftime.
All efforts from the Etalons Dames ended in futility despite needing only a draw to go through.
In the other Group B fixture, Ivory Coast defeated Tanzania 2-1, ensuring top spot in the group.
