The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, has announced the approval of 16 academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC) following the successful completion of the Commission’s resource verification exercise.
The announcement was made on Thursday, September 25, 2026, during the University’s 35th Inaugural Lecture, held at the ETF Auditorium, where the Vice-Chancellor addressed the gathering virtually.
Recall that in the middle of last month, the NUC deployed its team to the University to verify the available infrastructure, facilities and other resources required for the commencement of academic activities in the 16 programmes. The exercise was a major requirement for securing approval for the programmes and subsequently admitting students into them.
Confirming the development, Prof. Kate Omenugha disclosed that the 16 programmes had now received the necessary approval from the NUC, paving the way for the University to commence admissions.
The Vice-Chancellor’s trip to Abuja, which coincided with the date of the Inaugural Lecture, was also connected to the conclusion of processes surrounding the approval of the programmes, hence her physical absence from the event.
She further assured that the University would, without unnecessary delay, commence the process of admitting students into the newly approved programmes.
The approved programmes are:
- BSc International Relations
- BRad Radiography
- BSc Software Engineering
- BSc Cyber Security
- BSc Data Science
- BSc Public Health
- BSc Project Management
- BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- BSc Transport Management
- BSc Taxation
- BSc Procurement
- BSc Information Technology
- BEHS Environmental Health Sciences
- OD Optometry
- DPT Physiotherapy
The development marks another significant addition to the academic offerings of the University, with the approved programmes expected to provide prospective students with more opportunities to pursue their desired fields of study at COOU.
