The remains of late Mrs Rose Obla Agbenem Orim, mother-in-law to the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Akomaye Parker Undiandeye, have been laid to rest in Utugwang, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State on Saturday.
Representing the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, at the funeral, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Peter Odey, who led the state delegation to the burial, described the deceased as a virtuous matriarch whose life was defined by faith, discipline, love and sound upbringing.
Odey said the positive impact of her life was evident in the character and achievements of her children, urging the family to draw comfort from the legacy she left behind.
He prayed for the repose of her soul, as well as those of some of her deceased children whom he described as friends during their growing-up years.
Speaking during the funeral, the son-in-law of the deceased and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. EAP Undiandeye, reflected on his relationship with his late mother-in-law, recalling her countless prayer sessions, counsel and encouragement. He described her as a mother who gave him unwavering support and treated him as her own son, adding that her impact on his life and family would remain indelible.
Also speaking during the funeral Mass, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe described the deceased as a mother figure and mentor who played a significant role in his life and the wider Ogoja community where she lived.
Late Mrs Orim, a Lady of St. Mulumba, was born in 1939 in Gakem, Bekwarra, and died at the age of 87. Though she had no formal education, she distinguished herself as a successful businesswoman and Jerusalem pilgrim. She is survived by six children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Mrs. Jane Ekor Undiandeye, wife of the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. EAP Undiandeye.
Among the dignitaries at the ceremony were the Member representing Obanliku/Bekwarra/Obudu Federal Constituency, Chief Hon. Peter Akpanke, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, Council Chairman of Obudu Local Government, Hon. Dr. Peter Undaiandeye, among others.
Also in attendance were senior military officers, government officials, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other distinguished guests.
