A major disaster occurred in the Gyirong Port area of Shigatse City, Tibet, on August 26, causing serious damage to communication facilities along the route and greatly affecting the orderly progress of emergency rescue, road clearing and other disaster relief work.
China Unicom announced today that at 13:30 on August 30, the first emergency base station adjacent to the border at the Gyirong Port was officially opened and put into operation. The signal coverage extends up to 1.2 kilometres from the border, successfully filling the communication gap in the border frontier.
At the same time, by sharing the network with China Telecom and implementing cross-network roaming with China Mobile, it provides network services to China Mobile and China Telecom users, actively solving the problem of weak network in the disaster relief area, and providing stable and reliable communication support for on-site rescue, road clearing, material transportation and front-line workers.
During this emergency repair operation, the rain and slippery roads posed significant challenges to the laying of optical cables, equipment installation, and signal debugging. All China Unicom emergency repair personnel efficiently advanced the equipment installation, parameter debugging, and signal optimisation work, working day and night to expedite the construction progress.
China Unicom has effectively improved network coverage, stability, and resilience in border areas by activating the “full network coverage” emergency mode and enabling 5G inter-network roaming, thus building an efficient and collaborative emergency communication support system.
Daily Lamp learned that, going forward, China Unicom will continue to conduct 24/7 network monitoring, closely monitor the progress of road clearing and disaster relief, prepare mobile base stations for support, continuously optimise border network quality, and solidly build an emergency communication defence line.
