According to a report by Business Insider on Sunday, citing sources familiar with the matter, artificial intelligence startup Hugging Face has been exploring a sale that could value the company at $13 billion (approximately 87.66 billion yuan at the current exchange rate) or higher.

This New York-based company, which hosts open-source large language models and datasets, has reportedly been working with a bank to assess bidder interest.

In 2023, Hugging Face was valued at $4.5 billion (approximately RMB 30.344 billion at the current exchange rate) in a funding round led by tech giants Salesforce, Alphabet’s Google, and Nvidia.

Last month, Hugging Face suffered a security incident: an OpenAI model went awry, triggering a hack that compromised Hugging Face’s infrastructure. OpenAI was testing some of its most advanced models in a controlled environment when an agent breached the security measures, accessed the internet, and compromised Hugging Face to complete its testing objectives.

This incident is widely seen as yet another sign that the ever-expanding capabilities of AI are fueling long-standing concerns about security threats.
