The Abia State Police Command says it has identified and destroyed a suspected criminal camp in Unuobasi Forest, located in Umunneochi Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the operation followed credible intelligence gathered by the Command.
The statement disclosed that operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit, working alongside the local security outfit in Umuobasi, carried out the operation on June 28, 2026.
During the operation, the suspected criminal camp was dismantled and destroyed, disrupting what police described as criminal activities within the forest. The Command added that surveillance and monitoring of the area are continuing to prevent criminals from regrouping.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain operations against criminal hideouts across the state.
“There will be no hiding place for criminals within Abia State,” the police commissioner said, stressing that the Command remains committed to its constitutional mandate of preventing crime and apprehending offenders.
He added that the police would continue to take the fight directly to criminal enclaves to ensure the safety of residents across the state.
The Command also urged members of the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious persons, activities or security concerns to the nearest police station or through its emergency hotlines.
Police emphasised that public cooperation remains vital in strengthening security and maintaining peace across Abia State.
