The Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Rivers State has sealed off an unapproved building site in Rumuekini Community over concerns about unsafe construction.
According to the council, the structure was allegedly built with substandard materials, including 10mm and 12mm reinforcement rods instead of the recommended 16mm rods.
It also said the developer planned to add another floor despite concerns about the building’s foundation and its potential impact on nearby structures.
The council further stated that the building was erected on an old borrow pit, raising fears about the stability of the foundation. Work on the site has been stopped while investigations continue.
Residents have been urged to report any attempt to resume construction without the council’s approval.
