As many Christians begin to panic over the arrival of ember months in the Gregorian calendar, the Pastor of The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Ikot Ansa Archibong District, Ikot Ekpo Ene Area, Akpabuyo Field, Cross River Territory, Pastor Liberty Edem, has kicked against many believers who nurse the feeling that the months of September, October, November and December carry bad omens of untimely death.
Edem in his interview with newsmen on Friday in Calabar said Christians don’t need to develop butterflies in their stomach, adding that it is just a myth developed by people who are not well versed in the scripture. “According to Isaiah 41:41 “Fear not, thou worm of Jacob, and ye men of Israel: I will help thee saith the Lord, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.”
Doubling down referenced Isaiah 54:15 “Behold, they shall gather, but not by me; whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake,” saying greater is the power of God in a true Christian’s life than the multitude of evil forces parading themselves in the world to cause harm anytime of the year which is not peculiar to ember months alone.
“Many people believe that the final four months of the year carry bad luck, according to superstitions, are full of doom with increased malevolent spiritual forces, and a higher toll of tragic accidents or sudden deaths.”
“It is common for churches and religious leaders to host special end-of-year ‘prophetic deliverance’ or prayer vigils specifically designed to ward off perceived evil and secure divine protection. While the supernatural claims are unfounded, the Ember months genuinely experience a rise in negative incidents due to concrete measurable factors with increase road accidents arising from traffic data like the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
“Also, families and businesses rush to complete yearly projects, school fees fall due and rent financial pressures peak, leading to the heightened anxiety, desperation and fatigue alongside high crime rates and environmental factor. Among those is onset of the harmattan season which brings dust, haze and poor visibility on roads contributes to vehicular accidents and seasonal fire outbreaks in crowded areas.
“Hence, there is a no Biblical reason to associate ember months with evil or fear of untimely death,” Pastor Edem said.
