The Rivers State Police Command has relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected police outpost of their duties following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.

The officers have also been queried, pending an investigation into a viral social media report and video alleging that suspected cultists visited the Abuloma Police Outpost on Thursday, 15 October 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.

In a press release issued on Friday, 16 October 2026, the Command said Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju had ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the veracity of the allegations.

The Command condemned any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly where such conduct could confer legitimacy or public recognition on suspected cult groups and other unlawful organisations.

It stressed that police facilities were public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law, warning that they must not become platforms for criminal groups seeking public validation or influence.

Under Adepoju’s leadership, the Command said it maintained zero tolerance for criminality and conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Police.

The investigation will examine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, the officers who authorised or approved the project, and whether the appropriate procedures were followed.

Investigators will also determine whether any police officer breached professional standards, compromised the integrity of the Force or was involved in the incident.

However, the Command clarified that it recognised legitimate community contributions towards improving police facilities, citing Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

It maintained that such assistance must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.

According to the Command, the investigation will establish whether the required approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those who financed or facilitated the renovation.

It added that donations or other forms of assistance would not grant anyone immunity from investigation or prosecution.

The Police further warned that it would not tolerate unprofessional conduct, compromise or improper associations between its personnel and criminal elements.

It said all officers were expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The Command assured residents that appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable, in line with the outcome of the investigation and applicable laws.

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime.

Residents were urged to remain calm and continue providing the Police with credible and timely information to strengthen security across Rivers State.
