The Nigerian military and police have clashed at a traffic post in Calabar, Cross River State, causing a gridlock that left commuters girded to their vehicle seat.
The incident which happened at the Traffic Control Post by WAPI Junction at about 5pm was said to be an accident involving some army trucks which attracted heavy police presence and a brown Toyota Camry.
Responding, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, said it was a minor traffic-related incident.
“…Yes, the Command is aware of the incident at WAPI Junction today.
“It was a minor traffic-related incident involving a military convoy and a police officer, which briefly resulted in a disagreement between personnel of both agencies. The situation was promptly de-escalated through the intervention of senior officers, and normalcy was restored.
“The Command is committed to maintaining cordial inter-agency relations and would advise that no conclusions or narratives be drawn beyond the facts presently established.
“Further clarification will be provided where necessary,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
