A collision between a commercial mini-bus and a private vehicle has injured many in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
The accident, Daily Lamp gathered, happened on Monday at Mohammed Highway by Diamond Hill Junction.
One of the victims, Marcelina Inyang Asuquo, who narrated what happened, claimed the private vehicle was at fault.
According to Asuquo, the commercial vehicle she boarded was on its lane on the Highway when the private vehicle, which was coming from Diamond Hill, and on high speed, collided with it.
“I was actually the first person to board this vehicle. Usually I love the front seat more than anything, but today, while I was to sit at the front, I felt within a strong urge to sit in the middle of the bus, reluctantly I obliged.
“On our way, when we got to Atekong (sic), my driver was already on speed and on the speed lane. We actually don’t know what was chasing the private vehicle coming from Diamond Hill that he couldn’t watch but enter the road.
“Before we could finish shouting the ‘Blood of Jesus,’ our bus has hit the private car. I think the driver and the passenger in front sustained serious injuries, and the passenger behind as well.
“We couldn’t stand to watch the scene after narrowly escaping because the vehicles were smoky as though it will soon catch flame, but as God may have it, some men came, and I think they used fire extinguisher,” she stated.
Daily Lamp reports that the Diamond Hill Junction has claimed lives in recent times. Residents are calling on the government to construct speed bumps or any traffic measure to curb the menace.
