The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, FPOG, is strengthening efforts to develop sports and identify talents on campus through a more structured and inclusive approach aimed at combining athletic excellence with academic growth.
The initiative reflects the institution’s broader commitment to all-round student development, with the Rector, Dr Victor Okolobah, championing a vision of inclusive progress across academic, social, and extracurricular activities.
As part of this drive, the institution is emphasizing the need for structured training pathways, certified coaching, and integrated programmes that support both education and sports development. FPOG’s initiatives such as a Sports and Education Excellence Programme would help students combine academic learning with high-level sporting development.
Key strategies identified for advancing campus sports development include early talent scouting through regular inter-departmental competitions, as well as the creation of clear athlete development pathways that guide students from basic physical training to more advanced competitive levels.
Other priority areas include the provision and maintenance of quality sports infrastructure such as fields, tracks, courts, and gym facilities, as well as the engagement of certified coaches who can focus on long-term skill development and athlete growth.
The institution believes that sustained investment in sports development will help unlock the potential of students and contribute meaningfully to the broader goal of producing well-rounded graduates equipped for national and global relevance.
