The Marina road linking to the Nigerian Navy Eastern base has cut into two, leaving so many pedestrians and vehicles stranded.
The cut portion of the road which is deep and wide also threatening sea farers express on the right, and the government house sitting at the top of the hill on the left, before they may be washed away into the Calabar River with persistent rainfall, if something urgent is not done about it, in-fact some residents in the area have packed.
The entire stretch of the Marina hill has been a problem for some time and few years ago the governments’ house portion had cut threatening the governor’s house and parts of the Marina resort but it was later rescued.
However, the latest land slide on Wednesday, no life was lost but some properties were washed away.
Similarly, the three weeks heavy rainfall in Calabar has swept away houses, destroyed many things and two child at Orok-Orok area kept aside for safety by their mother to rescue some of her properties were swept away.
People of Calabar and in marina road have called for an urgent government intervention by the state governor Senator Bassey Otu.
The resident of the area who pleaded anonymity, said the road started cutting since on Saturday until it collapsed on Wednesday, but no life and properties were lost, except one building that may collapse any moment from now.
A private company, Bvent construction LTD has started a remedial measure by filling the road with hardcore on Thursday.
Large resident of the area and Calabar have gathered in the area which may collapse if not checked.
