The Vigilante Unit of Esuk Mba, today, August 26, apprehended a man by name Ekpo Bassey Ekpo (a.k.a Koko Mkpakpa) for allegedly stealing roofing zinc meant for an ongoing government project in Esuk Mba Market, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
According to a press statement by the state’s Border Security (South), the arrest followed a strategic and discreet intelligence operation carried out by the Esuk Mba Vigilante Unit.
“Through careful investigation and coordinated efforts, the operatives were able to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrator,” the statement said.
It added that, “The Director General of Border Security South, Chief Edet Edet (a.k.a Togo) has commended the swift and proactive intervention of the vigilante operatives.”
According to the statement, the Director General assured the public that appropriate steps would be taken in accordance with the law as investigations continue.
“More information will be made available to the public at the appropriate time.
“Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies and community security groups in the collective effort to protect lives and property.
“The Director General emphasised that government projects and facilities situated within communities belong to the people and should be protected by them, as they are the direct beneficiaries of such developments.
“He, therefore, called on residents to take ownership of and safeguard all government infrastructure provided for the development and benefit of their communities,” it added.
