The Rivers State Police Command has arrested and detained several police officers captured in viral social media videos extorting money from motorists in Port Harcourt.
Following public outrage, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, ordered an immediate full-scale investigation into the personnel’s actions, emphasising that unprofessional conduct and illegal collections will face zero tolerance.
A viral video published by activist Comrade Phils exposed a team targeting motorists near the former President’s residence.
Led by ASP Omomefe Akin Geoffrey, the team ignored valid factory-fitted tinted glass permits, threatened drivers with vehicle detention, and demanded cash extortion starting from ₦100,000.
The Commissioner’s Monitoring Team separately apprehended three inspectors—Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau—during a coordinated patrol. Captured on camera by a motorist, two of the female inspectors were operating completely out of uniform.
Operatives recovered the extorted cash on-site.
