Ondo State Amotekun Corps operatives are unhappy due to the warrant of enlistment letters given to them by the Ondo State Amotekun Commander. Some of the operatives lamented that the sum of ₦100,000 was approved by the state government, but the Commander has been giving them only ₦30,000 to ₦40,000.
The letter that was given to them was intentionally designed so that Ondo State Amotekun Corps operatives will not have career progression. Also, there is nowhere in the history of Nigeria where an employment letter carries such restrictions. Ondo State Amotekun Corps is not a secret cult, and it belongs to the people of Ondo State.
After carefully reading the warrant of enlistment letter, I discovered that there is no grade level or entry level stated in the letter, despite the fact that many Ondo State Amotekun Corps operatives are using a ranking structure based on their academic qualifications.
There is a lot of white-collar crime going on in Ondo State Amotekun Corps. Why is the Ondo State Amotekun Corps Commander afraid of giving his staff appointment and confirmation letters? Could it be because of the issue of ghost workers?
How will you issue a letter without stating the retirement age or years of service? Is Ondo State Amotekun Corps employment a life contract until death do us part?
Up till this moment, Ondo State Amotekun Corps does not have any rules and regulations or any form of code of conduct to guide the behavior of its officers and operatives.
If a warrant card can contain the rank of an officer, why can’t the same rank also be reflected in the warrant of enlistment letter?
Ondo State was the first state to establish Amotekun, yet it is now the one lagging behind. Now that state police is around the corner, is this the kind of Amotekun we are expecting? It is time for Ondo State to prepare the Ondo State Amotekun Corps for the coming of state police.
