Urges Senator Godswill Akpabio, other public officials to exercise caution in public remarks relating to sensitive matters connected to Cross River State’s territorial, economic, and oil-related interests.

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State chapter, has observed with concern recent public discussions and commentaries surrounding the status of the State’s oil wells and related matters of resource ownership, representation, and economic interests.
In a statement signed by the state Chairman of IPAC, Effiom Edet Okon, said as the umbrella body of registered political parties in the state, IPAC wishes to remind all elected representatives of Cross River State in the National Assembly that their primary responsibility is to defend, protect, and advance the collective interests of the people of Cross River State above personal, partisan, or sectional considerations.
“The issue of Cross River State’s oil wells remains a matter of significant economic importance to the state and its people. Consequently, every action, statement, negotiation, or legislative engagement concerning this subject must be guided by the principles of justice, equity, constitutional responsibility, and the overall welfare of Cross River citizens,” he said.
IPAC, therefore, calls on all Senators and Members of the House of Representatives representing Cross River State to demonstrate unity of purpose and speak with one voice on matters affecting the state’s economic future. “The people of Cross River expect visible commitment, accountability, and proactive engagement from their representatives in protecting the state’s legitimate interests.”
Furthermore, while acknowledging the contributions of distinguished national leaders and the cordial relationship that exists among neighbouring states, IPAC respectfully urges the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, and other public officials to exercise caution in public remarks relating to sensitive matters connected to Cross River State’s territorial, economic, and oil-related interests.
The body urged public statements from highly placed leaders carry considerable weight and should always promote mutual respect, national unity, and confidence among affected communities.
“Cross River State has a proud history of hospitality, peaceful coexistence, and accommodation of people from all parts of Nigeria and beyond. However, this spirit of brotherhood should never be interpreted as a basis for diminishing or compromising the legitimate rights, resources, and aspirations of the state and its people.
“IPAC remains committed to promoting constructive dialogue, democratic engagement, and peaceful advocacy in pursuit of policies and decisions that will strengthen the development, prosperity, and future of Cross River State,” the statement added.
