The Edo State Police Command has arrested a driver, Isiaka Suleiman, over the alleged theft of his employer’s Toyota Camry, while another stolen Toyota Corolla was recovered during separate operations in the state.
The police said the recoveries were part of its intelligence-led operations against violent crimes and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Etsako Imohimi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Camry, with registration number BEN 572 BT, was reported stolen on September 7, 2026.
It said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit commenced investigation and tracking, which led to Suleiman’s arrest in Warri, Delta State, and the recovery of the vehicle.
“The suspect and vehicle have been handed over to the VCRU for further investigation,” the statement said.
In a related development, police operatives attached to the Iguobazuwa Division recovered a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, with registration number GGE 675KR, belonging to Yikodeen Company Limited.
The vehicle was reportedly stolen from Lagos State and was intercepted on September 17, 2026, while allegedly being driven to Port Harcourt for sale.
The police said the vehicle was stopped following an emergency message received from the command’s control room.
It added that the vehicle’s number plate had been detached and concealed inside it, while the 21-year-old driver, Ahmed Musa Abubakar, was arrested.
According to the command, Abubakar confessed to the offence during preliminary investigation, while the recovered vehicle had since been released to the company.
The Commissioner of Police urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police to assist ongoing efforts to protect lives and property.
