Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, says the state government, the Federal Government, and oil companies have agreed on steps to stop the ongoing gas leak in Bille Community, Degema Local Government Area.
Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, Governor Fubara stated that the meeting was attended by the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, officials from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum, oil companies, and traditional rulers from Bille.
The governor stated that the meeting followed an earlier visit to the affected community to assess the situation, after residents had raised concerns about the gas leak.
According to him, all parties agreed on practical steps to stop the leak, and the Federal Government and the oil companies assured the community that work to fix the problem would begin in the coming weeks.
