The Federal College of Education, FCE Obudu, has formally inaugurated the newly elected executives of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) for the 2026/2027 academic session, charging the new student leaders to uphold responsibility, accountability and the interests of the entire student body.
The inauguration ceremony, held today at the Paul Adah Hall, marked the formal commencement of the administration of the newly elected SUG executives, following their emergence at the peaceful Students’ Union election conducted on 11 September 2026.
The ceremony brought together members of the College Management, staff, electoral officials, student representatives and other members of the College community to witness the transition and formal assumption of office by the new student leaders.
Representing the Provost of the College, Dr. Richard Ugbaha Utubaku, at the occasion was the Deputy Provost Academics, Dr. Ezekiel Oji, who delivered the Provost’s address on behalf of the College Management.
In his address, Dr. Oji congratulated the newly inaugurated executives on their successful emergence and urged them to see their election not merely as an achievement, but as a call to service.
He emphasized the importance of responsible leadership, peaceful engagement and constructive representation, encouraging the new SUG leadership to work collaboratively with the College Management and other stakeholders in advancing the interests and welfare of students.
The Deputy Provost Academics also stressed the need for the executives to demonstrate maturity in handling students’ concerns and to channel their demands through appropriate institutional structures.
According to him, the Students’ Union Government remains an important platform for student representation, and its effectiveness depends largely on the commitment, discipline and integrity of those entrusted with leadership.
He therefore encouraged the new executives to uphold the confidence reposed in them by their fellow students and to ensure that their tenure contributes positively to the development of the College community.
The inauguration attracted several senior officials of the College, underscoring the importance attached to student leadership and the relationship between the SUG and College Management.
Among those present was the Deputy Provost Administration, Dr. Godwin Tsua, who joined other members of Management in witnessing the formal inauguration of the executives.
Also in attendance was the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ignatius Ingwu, whose office plays a central role in student affairs and serves as an important link between the student body and College Management.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee (ELECO), Mr. Chris Akpabuo, was also present at the ceremony. His presence was significant as he and his committee had supervised the electoral process that produced the new SUG executives.
Other officials present included the Director of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), Dr. John Ogabor; Student Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Achado; and the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Chukwuma E. Onwuoku.
Their presence reflected the broad institutional support for the new administration and the College’s commitment to ensuring a functional and responsible Students’ Union Government.
The inauguration represents the culmination of the electoral process that began with the SUG election of 11 September 2026, in which students across the College participated in choosing their representatives for the new academic session.
Erunke Christopher emerged as President with 447 votes, while Terseer Samuel S. was elected Vice President with 452 votes, the highest number of votes recorded by any candidate during the election.
Other members of the new executive include Ugbem Clement, Secretary; Ahembe Damian, Assistant Secretary; Onenge Victor, Treasurer; Kershima Felix Ashara James, Financial Secretary; Odey Samuel, Director of Socials; Bala Anas, Public Relations Officer; and Achi Evere Tus, Director of Sports.
Their inauguration formally transfers the responsibility of representing the interests of students to the new administration.
The new executives assume office at a time when students expect effective representation and meaningful engagement on issues affecting their academic and social lives.
Among the areas expected to receive attention during the new administration are student welfare, academic support, communication between students and Management, social and sporting activities, advocacy and the promotion of unity among students.
The executives are also expected to maintain an open and constructive relationship with College authorities while ensuring that legitimate concerns raised by students are properly articulated and channelled through the appropriate avenues.
The administration will equally have the responsibility of promoting peace, discipline and responsible citizenship among students.
The inauguration therefore marks more than a ceremonial transition of power. It signals the beginning of a new phase of student leadership in which the newly elected executives are expected to translate their electoral mandate into purposeful service.
Having been chosen by their fellow students, the executives now carry the responsibility of representing the collective interests of the student body and contributing to a conducive academic environment.
The College Management, through the address delivered by the Deputy Provost Academics, has reaffirmed its willingness to work with the new SUG leadership while encouraging the executives to approach their responsibilities with maturity, respect for institutional processes and a commitment to the welfare of students.
With the formal inauguration completed, Erunke Christopher and his team are now fully positioned to commence their administration for the 2026/2027 academic session, with the expectations of the student body and the College community resting firmly on their shoulders.
