The Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Pius Ankpo Edet, has expressed satisfaction with the renewed spirit of peace, reconciliation and unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
Edet spoke at an enlarged meeting of the Liberation Movement in Akamkpa, where he welcomed what he described as a new chapter of unity within the party and urged members to put their past differences behind them in the interest of the APC’s success ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the commissioner, the strength of Akamkpa lies in the ability of its people to forgive, reconcile and move forward as one family.
He said a united party would be better positioned to mobilise voters and secure victory at the polls, calling on APC leaders and members across the local government area to close ranks and work collectively for the success of the party at all levels.
“The strength of Akamkpa lies in our ability to unite, forgive and move forward as one family,” Edet said.
He further urged party members to respect decisions taken by the APC and work freely with one another irrespective of previous disagreements, stressing that unity remained critical to the party’s electoral prospects.
The commissioner’s call for reconciliation comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually intensify, with party leaders across Cross River State increasingly emphasising grassroots mobilisation and internal cohesion.
Edet pays emotional tribute to late commissioner
The gathering also took an emotional turn when Edet called for a minute’s silence in honour of the late Hon. Eka Williams, the former Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy.
Visibly moved, Edet prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked God to grant his family, friends, associates and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
The meeting was attended by the APC Vice Chairman, South, Cross River State, Hon. Titi Ndifon; APC Chapter Chairman, Hon. Fidelis Enok; APC flagbearer for Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency, Hon. Ngim Okpor, and his wife, Hon. Ofutane Paul.
Also present were Hon. Joseph Ekamoti Agbor, Prof. Eric Offiong, Prof. Itari, Hon. Austin Aidam, Hon. Magnus Ntui, the SSA on Environment, and the Director-General of Pillars of Equity, Hon. Mary Ankpo Pius, alongside members of her team and other party leaders, stakeholders and faithful.
The gathering ended with renewed appeals for unity, reconciliation and stronger grassroots coordination as the APC prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
