The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has announced its full support for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Conference in Port Harcourt, with measures aimed at delivering a clean and zero-waste conference.
The Managing Director of RIWAMA, Dr Ibimina Wokoma, disclosed this during a working visit to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, the venue of the conference.
Wokoma said the agency had intensified waste evacuation, sanitation operations and public enlightenment across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor to ensure a clean and healthy environment for delegates, residents and visitors.
He commended the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for his efforts in making the state a safe haven for investment, hospitality and business, as well as his commitment to restoring Port Harcourt’s Garden City status.
The outgoing National President of the NBA, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, appreciated RIWAMA for its commitment to delivering a zero-waste conference.
Osigwe urged the agency to use the opportunity to showcase the good works of the Rivers State Government in environmental restoration.
As part of its preparations, RIWAMA has deployed Sanitation Marshals across Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor to sensitise residents and visitors on proper waste disposal.
The agency has also positioned waste collection bins at strategic locations, particularly around the NBA Conference venues, as part of efforts to ensure proper waste management and maintain a clean environment throughout the conference.
