The Students’ Union Government (SUG), Delta State University, Abraka, has raised serious concerns over a reported incident involving the alleged harassment of a student by a lecturer.
According to the information received by the Union, the incident reportedly escalated to a point where the affected student fainted, raising concerns about the welfare, safety and dignity of students within the university environment.
The SUG acknowledges the importance of discipline and professionalism in the academic environment and respects the authority of lecturers in carrying out their duties. However, such authority must be exercised with due regard for the dignity, welfare and fundamental rights of students.
The Union has, therefore, called on the appropriate authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported incident and take appropriate action where necessary.
The Students’ Union Government says it remains committed to protecting the welfare and interests of students and ensuring that they are treated with dignity in a safe and conducive learning environment.
All concerned parties are urged to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to investigate and address the matter accordingly.
